Sydney Park site has undergone various transformations over the years. At the beginning of the 20th Century this area was home to one of the largest quarries in Sydney, supplying materials for the city's brickworks. The iconic brickwork stacks still dominate the horizon at the end of King Street, Newtown.
Later, the vast hole in the ground left from years of mining became the city's tip, which was conveniently located in the city's industrial heartland.
Over the past decade Sydney Park has become one of Sydney's most progressive
open public spaces and over 40 hectares of woodlands, marshes, grassland, tree
plantings and salt marsh, makes it one of Sydney's vibrant and ecologically
significant urban parklands.
